Quick answer: To opt out of Whitepages for free, search your name on whitepages.com, open your free listing with “View Details” and copy its web address. Paste it into the Whitepages opt-out form, click “Remove Me”, pick a reason, then enter your phone number and verify with the 4-digit code on an automated call. You don’t need to pay or create an account.
Table of Contents
Before You Start
- It’s free. If a page asks for payment, you’ve clicked a paid report instead of the free listing.
- You need a phone that can take a call. Whitepages verifies every request with an automated call. It says the number is only used to verify the request and won’t be resold or used on its site.
- You may have more than one listing. Old addresses and phone numbers can create separate listings. The form takes one web address at a time, so repeat the steps for each.
Step 1: Find Your Listing URL
- Go to whitepages.com and search your first and last name, plus your city and state.
- Find your listing in the results and click View Details. Don’t click “View Full Report”, which is the paid option.
- Check that the phone number and address are yours.
- Copy the web address from your browser’s address bar. Whitepages says it ends with a short reference code, usually 11 characters, like whitepages.com/name/Example-A-Person/Seattle-WA/Abcd12345ef.
Steps 2 to 5: Use the Whitepages Opt-Out Form
The form lives at whitepages.com/suppression-requests. When we checked it in October 2026, it showed five steps, matching Whitepages’ own help article:
- Paste your listing URL into the box and click Next.
- Confirm the listing. Check the details one last time and click Remove Me.
- Pick a reason. Whitepages says the reason doesn’t affect your request. Click Next.
- Verify by phone. Enter your phone number, review the agreement and click Call Now to Verify. The screen shows a 4-digit code. Answer the automated call and enter the code when asked.
If it worked, the page confirms that Whitepages is processing your removal. Search your name again a few days later to check that the listing is gone.
Whitepages Opt Out Not Working? Fixes
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| The form rejects your URL | Copy it again from the “View Details” page, not the search results. Make sure the reference code at the end is included. |
| It asks you to pay | You opened a paid report. Go back to the search results and use “View Details”. |
| The verification call never comes | Check the number you typed, then try again. If it still fails, use the blue “Request Help” button on the form to open a ticket with Whitepages’ Customer Care Team. |
| Your name still shows in Google | Google may show a cached copy for a while. Whitepages says search engines can take up to 30 days to drop it. |
| A listing came back months later | People-search sites refresh their data, so new listings can appear. Repeat the steps for the new URL. |
What Opting Out Doesn’t Do
- It doesn’t delete public records. Whitepages says it can’t hide information in databases it doesn’t control, such as public records.
- It only covers Whitepages. Other people-search sites have their own opt-out forms. The same company also runs 411.com and PeopleSearch.com, so search your name on those too.
- It isn’t permanent. Plan to check again every few months.
If you’re a federal judge or an immediate family member of one, Whitepages has a separate request process under the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act.
Next: Remove Yourself From Other People-Search Sites
Whitepages is one site of many. Our free guide to removing yourself from data brokers lists the opt-out pages for Spokeo, BeenVerified, FastPeopleSearch and others, plus California’s free DROP tool and Google’s removal tool.
Doing Spokeo next? Our Spokeo opt-out guide works the same way: find your listing URL, paste it into the form and confirm by email.
Doing it by hand is free but slow, and listings tend to come back. If you’d rather pay a service to send removal requests for you and repeat them, Incogni is one option. We looked at whether Incogni is worth it, and it’s included in the Surfshark One+ bundle along with a VPN. Check the current price before you buy.
